5 secret cocktails that are better than anything on the menu

I’m going to let you in on a Secret. There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to ordering a cocktail. There is an unofficial, unadvertised collection of cocktails available to anyone with a little inside information…and these secret cocktails are the real deal.

This list is by no means definitive or complete…I have to keep a few of the best spots to myself.

The Marlins and the Dolphins aren’t exactly what you would call “winning” teams. We used to have the Heat but my bookie has them at 35 to 1 on the 2015/2016 Season… not the kind of odds I like putting my money on. The only sure thing left in Miami is the team at 2727 Indian Creek Drive.

The Broken Shaker: Recently named Best American Hotel Bar at Tales of the Cocktail (the Oscars for booze). I have been going here since day one… I still dig it. It’s the Pride of Miami.

27 Restaurant & Bar: As we say in Miami… Perfecto. I could do their Arepas non-stop.

Lately when it comes to the 27 block of Indian Creek I have been spending my time at the upstairs bar at 27. It’s less crowded and more chill than the Broken Shaker but the cocktails are still a 10 out 10. What can I say… I’m into small groups and low volume.

I will go as far as to say that Lure Fishbar was built with me in mind. My tailor took me here a while back and I’ve been hooked ever since. The food is unbeatable, the cocktails are first class and the management is cool as hell. Even the water is perfect.

I’ve been using it for warm up cocktails, business dinners, romantic dinners, shakedowns and just about any other type of social exchange that requires booze.

Restaurants are not supposed to have cocktails this good but Lure delivers as a legitimate cocktail destination. Ordering a basic drink like a Gin & Tonic here is criminal.

I pride myself on knowing where all the hidden gems are in Miami. Repour is a gem that happens to be hidden in the middle of everything.

The first time I walked into Repour I knew I found the ideal spot for a post dinner drink. Its mismatched furniture and laidback atmosphere give it the perfect vibe for heavy, light or confidential conversations.

Don’t be surprised if you don’t hear about it from your hotel concierge… you hear about places like this from someone with a little more street cred. It’s the type of bar where bartenders go after work for a hand crafted cocktail. Tip: Bartenders are more proficient concierges than actual concierges.

Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent, Peter Parker… they all had a side hustles. Coyo Taco is a restaurant with a side hustle.

The Food: There are lines out the door every damn day of the week, so it’s safe to say their food is on point.

The Side Hustle: Hidden in plain sight behind a door marked “Employees Only” is a hidden lounge where Margaritas are made with a touch of craft cocktail genius. It’s home to a floor vibrating Reggae night on Wednesdays that has worked its way into my weekly routine.

Miami has plenty of Mega Clubs that are content to serve you Vodka Redbulls until you are blackout drunk. If that’s your thing… Cool. Don’t let me deter you. You can do that every single night of the week in Miami.

Personally, I don’t like to turn it up to 10 anymore… but sometimes I like to turn it up to 7. On those nights I throw on my bespoke Duncan Quinn 3-piece suit and head for the Rec Room.

The Rec Room feels like a basement built out by your most stylish friend. More than anything I love this place because they have great taste in music. They don’t play the latest tracks by DJ Khaled… they have vinyl from the Golden Age of Hip Hop on tap. That gives them style points off the charts.
